Ok, y'all are just gonna have to humor me for a little bit today, because these pictures all look almost identical.
See, last Sunday, for the first time in, like, EVER, our bedroom was completely clean.
(I'm loving all the sunlight and shadows everywhere)
So I did what any self respecting blogger would do... I grabbed a camera.
Y'know, so I could hook up to a Spring linky party somewhere.
The deal with my style is that it leans way toward traditional, masculine, earthy and muted. And that just doesn't leave too much room for the chippy, the white, the pastel, the fouf and frills of Spring. So this is about as close as I get to go.
The white porcelain crest over the bed was $100 from Homegoods. It looks quite Domino/Ruthie Sommers-ish to me and I love it. I bought it right after we sold our old house, so it survived three moves before it ever saw the light of day on a wall. Amazing.
The charcoal trellis euro shams were $5 a piece last summer at the Pottery Barn outlet in Gaffney. I bought them for Big T's bed but we've already established that he's a guy and therefore could not care less about all things decorating, so I swiped them.
The huge blue toile ottoman came from the consignment store last year. To tell the truth, I'm already a little tired of the print, but it's functional so it will probably stay. And most of the time it's covered in laundry to be folded so I don't have to look at it anyway. Feel free to implement my decorating solutions in your own home-I don't mind a bit!
The duvet cover was $60 from Ikea. It looks beige in the photos but it's actually a pretty pale gray-blue.
We finally got all the Restoration Hardware Thai Silk curtains hung a couple months ago (Four trips to the store exchanging stuff and we only had one major argument to do it, too!) You may remember how I came to have those.
So, wanna know a secret about me?
Ahem.
Well, I'm sort of a drapery snob. Double lined and custom made, baby! It just about killed me to put up these expandable rods because I can't stand that little dip in the middle.

I know. I'm weird sometimes.
But they were covered up by the rod pocket and everything was fine.
Then I decided to add the rings because the curtains didn't want to stay open.
Problem is, the ceiling is ten feet high, so those puppies are way up there.
And the rings get caught on the dip thingy in the middle
And the rings get caught on the dip thingy in the middle
and they don't want to close
and then you have to
yank on them
and jiggle them
and swear at them
and threaten them
to get the rings to cooperate,
but usually the hooks pop out of the rings anyway,
leaving the whole thing looking all saggy
and sad.
Boo.
Hiss.
Grrrr.
So the other night I'm watching The Judds (have y'all seen that show? A bit like watching a train wreck but nevertheless fascinating!) and generally minding my own business when there comes a horrendous wall-shaking crash, which in turn sets off the glass break on the security system. So, disoriented by the wailing alarm, I stumble-fly down the stairs, fully expecting to find B: a) bleeding profusely from a missing limb, b) being held at gunpoint by a masked intruder, or c) sprawled out on the floor...y'know....not breathing.
B was fine. He had climbed up on the bedside chest trying to fix the *$%#@ curtains after they came off AGAIN and he ended up tipping the whole chest over. That marble top is not attached to the chest so it came crashing down and left a ginormous gash in the floor.
Needless to say, the floor man IS NOT HAPPY about that.
Let's see, what else...
Oh! Almost forgot the best part. See that black and cream needlepoint throw pillow?
It's a Trina Turk. I found it at the consignment store too. It still had the tags on it from our local design/accessories mall where people with more money than sense buy their tchotchkes.
Now I ask you:
Who in their right mind
pays TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS for one throw pillow?!!
I paid $40 for it, which is still at the high end of my throw pillow threshold, but I looked it up online when I got home and it's still selling out there for around $125. So I'm feeling rather thrifty, yes I am.
What've you found good lately?

Hi Tee, What a gorgeous bedroom! I love the soft colors and the wonderful silk curtains. The crest, silver lamps, ottoman...everything works beautifully together. Thank you for sharing your bedroom at my party.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
Your bedroom is stunning, Tee! Your bed is beautiful, everything from the upholtered headboard (love the shape and nail head trim) to the bedding and mix of fabrics in your pillows. Your new silk curtains are lovely, too. I also really like your use of the non-matching metal piece and marble top chest as 'nightstands.' Everything works together perfectly... love your style. :)
ReplyDeleteI am so loving your bedroom...it really is magazine worthy. The soft colors are perfect as well as the mismatched night stands. Love your pretty drapes, too! I'm glad no one was hurt in the late night fiasco!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Tee!
XO,
Jane
Hi, Tee! I don't think I've been by here before, but wow, what a beautiful room. It is absolutely gorgeous & I love that you put it together so thrifty. This one just might make it on one of my round-up posts! Thanks for linking up.
ReplyDeleteLovely post and thank you for sharing your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThe draperies look lovely, but I have had the same problem with certain types of rods. The chunkier, smooth all the way across rods are much easier. I think the colors of your room & accessories look amazing.
ReplyDeleteCAS
Beautiful room... and it just feels so very you! I may not know you well, but it speaks of your personality, and I love that! So inspiring!
ReplyDeleteSweet deal on the pillow!
ReplyDeleteI too am a curtain snob. So sorry to hear that it caused a gash on your gorgeous floor!
You crack me up!!!! I LOVE this room!!!!! (although I'd love it with the clothes on the ottoman, too!!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a steal on that pillow!!!
I generally follow the same decorating style that you do, so I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who likes earthy, textural, colorful traditional/European style things in their home and is not all white.
I love white, but not all the time everywhere!!!
I think that Vignette Design is very similar to us in color/style preferences!! Do you read her??? Delores?
Okay--I just want you to know that you are definitely more than welcome to visit us here in Italy!!!!!
I'm not kidding. I'm Southern. It doesn't matter if I've met you at the baseball game, in the grocery store, at church or online, my home is open to my friends, and you are my friend!!! I absolutely believe that you are NOT a serial killer stalking online and I believe that you don't believe that I am one, either ;)
HA!!!!!
Hugs/Happy Easter a tiny bit late,
Lana
Hey Tee-
ReplyDeleteYou always have a line that makes me chuckle-
as in throw pillow threshold.
I love that-
Your bedroom is wonderful- it looks like a haven.
My project list is long but I get so distracted!
Happy Belated Easter!
Laura
Beautiful bedroom! I so love the nice clean uncluttered look ~ nothing like mine! :0)
ReplyDeleteYour ottoman and pillows are out of this world, as are your lamps and ceiling fixture.
Hmmm, may need to borrow your idea of how to decorate the ottoman......!!LOL

Gorgeous room!!
ReplyDeleteLove the simple elegance.
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Laura
I love this room and love your writing! I completely agree about that much money for a throw pillow! I saw one in a magazine last month that was $229!! Are you kidding me? I was so proud of the Ikea pillow and iron on transfer thingy I did for $14! I am definitely not their target audience, I guess...
ReplyDeleteBack to the room--it's just beautiful!! Great job!
Visiting from No Minimalist Here's party and looking forward to following you.
Have a great night.
Pam
What a gorgeous room. The images drew me in, but the funny, Tim Allen/Home Improvement sort of back story made me stay. Boy, can I identify!
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible score on that pillow!
Oh my goodness, I'm gelous of your bedroom...I want to redecorate ours, change floors to hard wood instead of wall to wall carpet and the color, the window treatment, etc. I just seems to stoll cause I hate all the mess it'll cause...but, you have inspired me with this lovely bedroom, thank you sharing it!
ReplyDeleteHugs FABBY
I'm also your happy new follower...hope you visit and follow back too!

I love your beautiful bedroom - and I love that beautiful light and the shadows in these too :) bummer about your floors - but holy cow, they are gorgeous! and I love your high ceilings and moldings and your ceiling fan light fixture. I might have a crush on your bedroom :)

Okay darlin', this is quite lovely. So beautiful with personality. You are making me laugh about the rods with the dip in the middle - welcome to my world. I would love to have custom rods and someday I will. Til then, grrrr arrrrgh - pulling drapes across the dip. i will say, I make my drapes so they are lined/blackout. Yours look lovely. What's up with Restoration Hardware????? Apparently everyone (I know) has had a bad experience with them. Did I mention your bedroom is charming? Brava!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is gorgeous! I love, love, love the wood floor! Would love to get rid of all the carpet in my house! Not a fan!!!
ReplyDeleteover the top fabulous!!!! Our bedroom is more masculine and muted also. I like a bedroom cocoon and cozy. no ruffles. besides, my cats would just throw up on it anyway. xo Debra
ReplyDeleteSo, just a few minutes ago, I was looking at According to Nina...another blog and I saw a pic of your bedroom, and I loved it there. Then, I hopped over to visit your blog and I find that it's YOUR bedroom! It looks so gorgeous! Love it, love it!
ReplyDeleteTee, I found your blog through Rhoda's blog and I am your newest follower (I'm a newbie @ blogging. I love, love, love your bedroom!! So inspirational.
