Mickey D's Room

It's finally starting to feel like fall around here.  Yesterday was cool and misting rain all day.  The urge to curl up with a book and my big ol' coffee mug and hide away from the world was almost overpowering.  B and I were at the new house most of the morning meeting with our hard-head stair guy and the painter.  I also got to watch the trim guys install the cypress paneling on the ceiling over the breakfast table.  That's one of my favorite things about the house.

Have y'all ever been to Allie's blog From the Right Bank to the Left Coast?  It is fabulous!  AND she's just landed a plum gig as Seattle contributor to Apartment Therapy - how cool is that? AND she's crushing on orange today.  Be still my heart.  Her style is a combination of modern meets world traveler meets Francophile and it is divine.  Allie has a little game called "What's Your Style in One Picture?" that you can join in anytime.  I've been pondering this question all summer.

A couple of years ago there was a showhouse in town to raise money to build a Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte.  This verra huge house had a little den that backed up to the family room, with a fireplace and doors opening out onto the back porch.  It was simple and cozy, not at all like any other space in the house, and I was smitten at first sight.  Fast forward a year when we were getting ready to start our house.  There was a grandiose looking two-story library with a spiral staircase adjacent to the family room in the plans, and...

You guessed it, I claimed that space as my own, nixed the stairs and two floors of shelves, added a fireplace and a door to the back porch, et voila!

The room below is from Traditional Home (click on photo to enlarge).  I love everything about it - the paint color on the bookshelves, the sofa fabric, the fun rug, the chandelier, the artwork, the quintessential Southern hydrangeas.  I'd also be willing to bet there's a fireplace on the other side of the room that we can't see.  It's bigger than the Mickey D's room, but has the same "cozy factor".

As a matter of fact, this whole house is to die for.  Guess what else? This is hanging in the living room.

HEY! THAT'S MY LIGHT!

So there you go. My style (cozy) in one photo.  Wanna play?

p.s. The Mickster's house is still for sale.  If you have a spare $2 million lying around, come see.

  2. That Micky D house is something! I like the photo of "your room". I will have to look at new photos with this in mind to see if I can come up with something I consider perfect. Fun to think about.

  3. Tee! Oh my goodness, I can't believe I'm only seeing this post now. Thank you so much for all the kind words. I'm totally blushing! And thank you for playing my little game. I can see why you chose this room. The built in bookcase is fantastic and it looks like it's flooded with natural light. I think I spy wide planks on the floor and that rug is a great pattern and color. I bet you're right about that fireplace, too. Thanks so much again!
